The Horse Market SF is a private event for all male identified persons that takes place every few months in San Francisco (possibly in addition to a city near you soon) and is modeled as close as possible to the famous Fickstutenmarkt party that is held in Europe. This to some people, is know as the Stallion and Mare party.
Here, willing mares offer themselves to stallions without ever seeing their faces. And just like the Fickstutenmarkt event, there are strict rules and laws that need to be followed. Before the event begins, every participant has to decide whether he wants to take part either as a mare or as a stallion. It is not possible to change roles once the market begins! On the day of the fair, the mares arrive before the stallions and get prepared for the event. They are to strip naked, have their hands bound (lightly) and are then blindfolded. Then the stallions appear and can fully inspect the bound mares at their leisure. When a stallion has decided on a mare, he then leads the chosen mare to a place of his choice to mount. When the stallion has finished covering the mare, they are to return the mare and they are then available for covering by other stallions.

Mr. Drummer ‘79 presents a tribute to The Balcony (1977-83).
Known as the hangout for heavy players, The Balcony opened at 6am as sex clubs like South of the Slot and Catacombs were winding down. Named after the Jean Genet play that was a favorite of the leather set, the bar had a large front porch overlooking Market Street and was located next door to the Swedish American Hall.
From Blueboy Magazine, Sept. 1980:
“The Balcony bar on Market Street is where Castro Street meets Folsom Street, where the t-shirt clad “All American Boys” rub elbows with the heavy leather crowd, where motocycles line the curb along with Karmann-Ghias, where taxi cabs jerk to a stop to load and unload cars full of dancing ‘hot’ men on their way to and from the local boogie palaces. It’s a wild, wild scene, turning off as many people as it turns on, but intriguing everyone.”
